That’s what every mom says, right?
I swear I’ve just been busy.
We say it when we are making excuses for not calling or texting people back. We say it when we have to decline an invite somewhere because we’re just too D-A-M-N tired to spell it out for them (see what I did there?). We say it when we are trying to get ourselves off the hook for not doing the laundry, forgetting that special snack at the grocery store, or just wanting to sit and do a whole lot of nothing.
I get it. I feel ya. Because I swear I’ve just been busy.
That’s my excuse for not writing a blog post since December. DECEMBER guys. What the heck?
But honestly, I really have been so busy. I’ve been expanding my company, Lakeview Creative Arts, and encountering many growing pains along the way. I’ve been enjoying Thomas as we reach the terrible (tenacious? trying?) twos and trying to come to terms with the fact that my big boy Andrew is graduating Kindergarten in just a week and a half. Seriously, where does the time go?
And so, as I sit down to finally write again, the ideas flow out of me. They’re going so fast I can’t even type them out fast enough. Because really, mental health is important, but a mom’s mental health is often overlooked. I need to write things down to get them out of my head, and when I’m not writing, I’m overwhelmed. The blog post isn’t the overwhelming part…it’s keeping the blog post inside that creates the overwhelm. And so, I have a blog called “The OVERWHELMED Mommy’s Guide to Having it All” and here I am talking about the overwhelm…again. It’s so real I can legitimately taste it. And it doesn’t taste good y’all.
And the overwhelm ends now.
I’m not saying I won’t be overwhelmed tomorrow or the next day, or even next Tuesday. But what I can say is that if I try hard to do this for me – writing it all down, getting it out of my big ‘ole brain – then maybe I’ll have some room for other things up there.
Like makeup. Gosh I love makeup. And clothes. And eating banana bread.
On Instagram, I talk about all these things all the time because it’s super easy to get the ideas out of your head, into a quick video, and go about your day. It wasn’t until friends starting telling me how much they enjoyed my humor (I didn’t even realize I was being funny, but hey, added bonus) and would talk to me about what I had filmed that day. It was like I let them in on a little joke I was only sharing with them, and I loved that feeling. I’m getting back to that feeling folks. And you’re welcome to come along, maybe leave a comment or two.
And about that makeup? You can shop anything I put on my face – yes, really! – by clicking that little SHOP tab above. My favorite products are from Senegence, but I also use a few other things that I’m really digging for the moment and would love to share them with you.
Because overwhelm is only cured by a little conversation right? Oh, and wine. Lots of wine.
Until next time, yall!
